It was an emotional night at New Edmiston House on Sunday as Allan McGregor and Steve Davis joined James Tavernier in the so-called Hall of Fame.

A decade ago Davis and McGregor were negotiating wage cuts with the condition that players could leave in the summer for cut price feeds.

The big hearted gestures ensured that the dinner lady, the woman in the laundrette and Betty in the ticket office kept their jobs with just Gordon Smith and Commercial chief Ali Russell were made redundant in February 2012.

Fortunately for the players those cut price exit deals weren’t required, when the club went into liquidation in June they were able to reject the TUPE option and leave for free.

Davo picked up a bumper deal from Southampton while McGregor spent a season in Turkey with Beskitas before picking up another signing on fee from Hull City.

Kyle Lafferty, Steven Whittaker, John Fleck and Steven Naismith also walked away with Lee McCulloch, Lee Wallace and Kirk Broadfoot transferring their contracts to Sevco 5088.

So, they had contracts at Rangers 1872 and could have swapped them over to sevco, but they chose not to, walked away and loyalty out the window!
They go and earn a living elsewhere and come back to sevco, when they’re doing, ahem, a wee bit better, McGregor in2018 and Davis in2019, being inducted into a “Hall of Fame” with Tavernier.
“Rangers Until I … ” get the call from somewhere else, perhaps?!
