John Kennedy has explained that his media duties today had been planned a week in advance.

The assistant manager was on duty in front of the cameras today at the end of a week in which there has been a frenzy of speculation that Ange Postecoglou was about to become the new manager of Leeds United.

Kennedy’s media role today added to the speculation but according to the man himself putting two and two together hasn’t led to the expected answer.

Covering today’s events The Scotsman reports the Celtic assistant saying:

There are no problems. He’s in the building and he took training. To be fair, it was planned over a week ago that I would do press duties to save him from answering the same questions. He just wanted a wee break from it, so it was my duty to stand in. This was planned before any speculation. He’s been his normal self this week. He’s been good.

Kennedy has been part of the Celtic first team coaching team since 2014, stepping up from first team coach to assistant manager to Neil Lennon in the summer of 2019.

Postecoglou signed a 12 month rolling contract when he joined Celtic in June 2019 and has brushed aside as insignificant suggestions that a new longer contract would be to his benefit.

Normally Postecoglou would give pre-match interviews tomorrow to Viaplay Sports, BBC Scotland and Celtic TV.

  • Chris Lynas says:

Jesus wept, he joined Celtic in 2021, not 2019.

  • Pan says:

It is good that he takes a rest from the mind-boggling, increasingly tiresome, repetitive and inanely stupid questions from hacks of limited language and a venomous agenda in many cases.
