When someone suggested to Micky Beale that it would go down well with the bears to have a go at Chris Sutton it wasn’t really the smartest of ideas.
A quick boost to his popularity wasn’t in dispute but the former Chelsea striker is one of the very very few pundits around that is sharp enough to fire back continuously from multiple platforms- all on his terms.
On Friday afternoon it was Twitter, early evening Sutton was on BT Sport and in Saturday’s Daily Record he can milk the unexpected attention for all that it is worth.
It is part of Sutton’s job to be the story, he can respond any time he likes, the minute Beale slips up he has fresh material.
The Ibrox boss already looks a tad obsessed, if he ever returns to criticising Sutton it will confirm that view and give his rival even more content to fire back with.

All I did was, on BBC radio, I asked Mark Chapman if he’d have done the same against Celtic. Mick got personal! He started talking about my playing career.
I can’t possibly comment on his playing career for obvious reasons. He started talking about comedy acts… the way he left QPR under a cloud was a comedy act. I’d go as far as to say that I’m more popular in West London than Mick Beale is!
Sutton could continue on BBC 5 Live over the weekend with Robbie Savage and in his Daily Mail column on Monday but he’ll have far more interesting topics to cover rather than put the short lived QPR boss in the spotlight in England.
