Why are BBC Scotland holding back on their Micky Beale ‘lucky Ange’ exclusive interview?

BBC Scotland seem very reluctant to broadcast their world exclusive interview with Micky Beale.

Football news is a 24/7 matter, in the space of a week or two a reputation can be made or destroyed, within a fortnight of taking Beale’s team to extra-time in the Viaplay Cup semi-final Jim Goodwin was out on his ear at Aberdeen, sacked at Easter Road without getting the opportunity to clear out his desk at Pittodrie.

In the middle of January BBC Scotland got the prized interview that they’d be working towards all season after agreeing a peace deal with the Ibrox media team.

Since rapidly stepping into the shoes of Giovanni van Bronckhorst Beale has had plenty to say about Scottish football with comments on Ange Postecoglou, Celtic and football budgets one of his favourites.

With the lack of imagination that you’d expect from an organisation that employs Tom English, Kenny Macintyre, Jane Lewis, Steven Thompson, Kenny Miller and Alasdair Lamont the BBC went straight for a lucky Postecoglou headline as they trailed their big exclusive.

On January 22 the state broadcaster announced:

In an exclusive BBC Scotland interview, Rangers manager Michael Beale explains why he described Celtic counterpart Ange Postecoglou as “a lucky man”.

The full Beale interview will appear across the BBC in February

Now, halfway through February and BBC Scotland have still to roll out their Beale exclusive.

Since the interview took place Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin have been added to Beale’s star studded squad, Ianis Hagi is back from injury and his unbeaten record at Ibrox has been extended.

Last week, without any SPFL fixtures would have seemed the moment for the BBC to maximise their audience but the big exclusive remains in the can.

Perhaps they will release it this week- or they are inside Ibrox negotiating a fresh interview rather than passing off something more than three weeks old as news.
