Ange Postecoglou has been reflecting on what he describes as a special day on Sunday as Celtic picked up the first trophy of the season.

Watching the action at Hampden and the post-match scenes it emphasised once again the bond between players and supporters as Celtic pushed forward for goals, dug deep to stay in front then celebrated big time before and after picking up the trophy.

An hour after the final whistle there were still fans inside Hampden savouring the feeling of a cup final win which could be the first stage of a treble with just one domestic defeat after 30 matches.

Postecoglou sets very high demands but one aspect that is often overlooked is that his plans for the season are for the team to put in a strong finish rather than ease back a little to reflect on achievements.

The manager allows players to do their thing at certain times with the post-match interactions and celebrations an important aspect as he prepares for further successes before the season ends.

There was a fantastic atmosphere that continued long into the night.

When I went out for breakfast with my beautiful wife the next morning, Glasgow seemed a bit quieter – so I reckon it was a big night on Sunday night for some of us.

I didn’t give them the whole 24 hours, they took a few hours. I was home by 8.30 with my family, that’s my way of celebrating.

I enjoyed the day and I was really pleased and proud of the performance the lads put on in such a big game.

We knew that it was the first trophy on offer, the occasion, the opponent, all of those kind of things, the week leading into it. It was going to be a significant day and I’m really proud of everyone that it turned into a special one.

It doesn’t matter how much success that you have through your career you never take it for granted. It is all hard earned, nothing is given. And from my perspective as much as I enjoy every part of the role, every day, when those moments come along you want to share them with the people who are important and for us that is the people on the pitch and the ones in the stands.
