Steve Clarke has put Greg Taylor’s absence from the Scotland squad down to a ‘little injury’.

The Scotland boss seemed a little evasive when he spoke to the broadcast media after announcing his squad for the home matches against Cyprus and Spain, referring to issues.

Taylor has been a regular in the squads named by his former Kilmarnock boss although caps have been infrequent due to the form of Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney.

Discussing the Celtic man’s omission from the Scotland squad, The National reports Clarke saying:

I have had a chat with Greg. It is really a Celtic issue, more than for me to comment on. He is carrying a little injury.

He will probably benefit from a rest rather than coming away with the national team. Celtic should elaborate on that a little bit.

Clarke was happy to reveal that Lawrence Shankland wasn’t included due to a hamstring injury. Taylor picked up an injury at Ibrox on January 2 but has been back in the Celtic side since the 2-0 win away to Dundee United on January 29.

Since Tannadice he has started seven matches with his only absence coming last week in the 3-1 home win over Hearts.

Following Saturday’s home match against Hibs on March 18 Celtic don’t play until April 2 away to Ross County with no midweek matches until the SPFL split in May.

Those folk never wanted the “Lisbon Lions” to get the caps they deserved, preferring lesser souls to win caps.
When your refs behave with no bias to a certain club then that club and fans may warm to you.

Clarke gives away that Taylor has an injury and he wants Celtic to back him up on that?
I think he is being wishful in his thinking on that – in true scotland Manager style!
