Richard Foster has claimed that Celtic’s second goal against St Mirren should have been disallowed for handball against Alistair Johnston.

Aaron Mooy’s free kick to the back post was met by the Canadian who appeared to head the ball down onto the base of Mark O’Hara’s back with the ball bouncing into the net.

Last week Motherwell announced that Foster was taking over as the Head of Coaching at their Academy but it seems that he will be continuing with his media career which saw him at Ibrox on Saturday for the visit of Kilmarnock.

Monday morning requires a VAR review on the BBC Scotland website with Foster discussing the weekend incidents alongside former referee Stuart Dougal.

FOSTER: On first viewing it probably looks like he has headed the ball down and onto the defenders back and into the net, and while the pictures are not conclusive it does appear to hit his right arm, he probably heads it down onto his right arm, that takes it net. However, like I say VAR didn’t intervene there because, I don’t imagine that it is a clear and obvious error or it is inconclusive.

DOUGAL: I think that, that for me I think would be the key area why VAR wouldn’t get the referee involved again. If the picture was as clear as you believe it to be, and there is an arm used there then most match officials, in fact all match officials know that a goal cannot be allowed to stand if it has hit the arm accidentally or otherwise.

With the limited talented pool in Scotland there seems to be regular overlap of current football employees with the media.

In England it is virtually unheard of with all of the leading media pundits completely independent of any club.

  • Charlie Kelly says:

Hopefully Foster will be just as honest and say Sevco third goal should never have been a Penalty as it never touched the players arm or hand,or is it only Celtic goals that he scrutinized

  • Andrew Lamb says:

When I saw that goal I thought the same to be honest then I watched again and its a foul all day long. If we’re going to moan about refs we need to acknowledge when we’ve got away with one.

  • Jim The Tim says:

    It’s not a deliberate or arms,hands outstretched.
It was played into the net by the defender. A fkn goal all day long

  • Davie says:

Richard Foster said disalow for appearing to hit Johnston on the hand, so there you go chop goal off for what foster and no one else seen, not even bar lodge, guys like Foster should stay quiet, what next the ball boy appeared to bless the ball so abandon the match.

  • John McNulty says:

Yet Allan McGregor can wipe out a Kilmarnock player and the only pundit to not say that it should have been a penalty was Foster. But he must go to the same lodge as the ref and var official!

    • Dora says:

Yep Mc Gregor tackles the Killie fella and nothing!?
