Ange Postecoglou won’t be getting involved in any war of words with Robbie Neilson.

After watching his side lose 3-1 to Celtic on Wednesday night the Hearts boss claimed that you needed to have a player decapacitated to see a Celtic player red carded on home soil.

The assembled media chuckled and headlined in on that quote overlooking that three of Postecoglou’s players were sent off at Celtic Park during 2022.

Neilson likes to style himself as some sort of master of mind games but he has been left disappointed if he thought he could distract the Celtic boss into a response.

Covering Postecoglou’s reaction The Daily Record reports:

Neilson was fuming at the Bernabei flashpoint – but Postecoglou admitted he doesn’t give a jot what the Hearts boss – or anyone else – thinks ahead of the Gorgie grudge match. He said: “What did I make of it? Nothing, mate, I don’t really care what other managers or other people say. It’s got no interest to me. Why would I be interested in what someone else thinks?

Every manager has the right to analyse or sum up the game in the way they want. I won’t tell people what to say or what to think. But it doesn’t matter to me. What matters to me is how I see and analyse the game and the feedback I get from the players.

That’s how we improve and get better. Other people’s opinions on the game are not relevant.”

Neilson has a track record for similar behaviour and for getting sent to the stand during matches.

Barely two and a half days on from the final whistle on Wednesday the two sides face up again at Tynecastle for a place in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup.

Kevin Clancy will referee the match with Willie Collum on VAR duty.
