Almost as soon as the SFA announced the officials for Saturday’s Glasgow Derby the Gullible & Deluded were sharing their paranoia.

For the crime of having an Irish sounding surname he has been dubbed Father Clancy which apparently means that he is inclined to give decisions in favour of Celtic!

Strangely the reality of matches involving Saturday’s referee say the exact opposite.

Since the two clubs first met in September 2016 Celtic have been by far the most dominant except for the freakish 20/21 season that was played without any fans being present.

Outwith that season Celtic have played their city rivals 20 times in the SPFL, winning 12, drawing 4 and losing 4.

Of those four defeats Clancy has refereed three of them with John Beaton performing a masterclass in December 2018 that prompted Celtic to dig out the surprised and disappointed statement template.

In losing four times outwith the Lockdown season Clancy has refereed 75% of those matches. Earlier this season Clancy gave a last minute red card to David Turnbull in Celtic’s home win over St Johnstone.

Clancy was in charge at Ibrox in August 2021, Celtic Park December 2019 and Ibrox May 2019 with Celtic losing all three matches.

What you don’t say is how many of the 16 games we didn’t lose that Clancy refereed!
If there weren’t any, then is he a “Jonah” for Celtic in the games that he ref.’d?

Editor: Outwith the 20/21 season Celtic probably win 80% of their SPFL matches, it is pretty special to have a 100% record over three fixtures.

Even Collum and Madden haven’t been in charge of a defeat in an SPFL Glasgow Derby outwith the freaky season.
