John Beaton will referee Saturday’s match between Celtic and Motherwell which almost certainly rules him out of the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden eight days later.
With Nick Walsh in charge of Aberdeen’s visit from Micky Beale’s side on Sunday it looks certain that the two officials that refereed the first three Glasgow derbies won’t be involved in their semi-final clash.
Kevin Clancy would appear to be a non-runner which leaves Willie Collum to take charge of the Hampden showdown or bring in a newcomer to the highest profile fixture in the Scottish game.
Steven McLean refereed the derby fixture in December 2016 but hasn’t been called on in the six years since.
This weekend Collum will referee Saturday’s match between St Mirren and Kilmarnock.
Beaton has only refereed two Celtic matches this season, the 2-2 draw at Ibrox on January 2 and a 2-1 win over Motherwell in October when he sent off Callum McGregor.
