John Lundstram is determined to turn up for Saturday’s Glasgow derby.

In February all sort of promises were coming out of Ibrox ahead of the Viaplay Cup Final but afterwards James Tavernier apologised to Ibrox fans for his side’s feeble display.

Micky Beale took much of the blame for that defeat with fans baffled by his team selection that left Todd Cantwell and Nico Raskin on the bench.

Without getting close to top gear Celtic won the final thanks to two goals from Kyogo Furuhashi with the Ibrox defence cut open for the striker to score from the six yard box.

A six match winning run since Hampden has restored confidence at Ibrox with Lundstram confident that his side can take full points from Celtic Park.

He told the Daily Record:

We’ve got to keep on fighting to try and draw back some points. But we have to perform better than we did in the Cup Final. The gap looked a lot bigger that day because we weren’t great and they played well. So we must put up a better showing.

If we do that you’ll see the gap probably isn’t as big as what people make it out to be. We’ll speak internally about our game plan. But we need to put up a better fight and show better quality on the ball than we did in the past. Our past results at Parkhead haven’t been good enough. So we need to put on a better show

Lundstram lost 4-0 to Celtic in September with Ange Postecoglou’s side having a 100% home record going into Saturday’s match.

Mr Lundstram’s only worthwhile contribution on the day of the 4-0 defeat referred to was a foul on Kyogo Furuhashi in the opening minutes which saw him subbed not long after: given the same player scored 3 goals in the next two encounters it may have saved his team from a “cricket score” that day.

I’d give him a cupla peanuts for his thought, right there!
