While Michael Beale was talking it all up with Ally McCoist and Neil McCann nodding away over the brilliance of the rookie boss it was left to some loyal bears to face upto the reality facing their club.
Once the paranoia is put aside there really wasn’t much to take from yesterday’s 3-2 defeat from Celtic other than the obvious fact that they avoided a pumping.
Beale’s forward line barely made a single notable contribution. With Alfredo Morelos and Ran Kent out of contract and Malik Tillman on loan it is unlikely that any of them will be back next season.
When your two new centre half’s chip in with assists for Celtic goals, exposing the limitations of your 41-year-old goalkeeper there isn’t much for Beale to take from the match.
Celtic turned in one of their poorest performances of the season but still won the points. Only Alastair Johnston, Callum McGregor and Kyogo Furuhashi played to form.
Ange Postecoglou will be looking for a big uplift in the performance at the Scottish Cup semi-final in three weeks. For Beale, yesterday was pretty much as good as it gets.

Reality will probably continue on Super Scoreboard with a few fans waking up to the fact that Beale in the dug-out isn’t the same as the genius that delivers wonderful media performances.
