Cameron Carter-Vickers is on course to be in the Celtic side that opens their defence of the SPFL Premiership title on August 5/6.

That is the news from Larry Henry Jr, a reporter for SBS Soccer in the USA and a very reliable source of information since the former Spurs defender was linked with a loan move to Celtic in the summer of 2021.

Carter-Vickers underwent knee surgery soon after Celtic’s Scottish Cup semi-final victory on April 30 with Ange Postecoglou praising the bravery of the player in putting off surgery until he had got through a pivotal match.

While such courage is always to be admired there is always an element of risk when you continue to play, putting off surgery.

Carter-Vickers has been in and around Celtic’s title celebrations without being in crutches which would suggest that everything is running to schedule.

The opening SPFL Premiership match of next season with be just over three months since his last match, going forward into the Champions League Celtic’s prospects will be much healthier if their American international is at full fitness.
