Humza Yousaf has reacted to the howling from Celtic-haters over Saturday’s Trongate Party celebrating Ange Postecoglou’s side winning the SPFL Premiership title.

In broad daylight thousands of fans gathered around Glasgow Cross, singing and chanting, letting off flares and a few fireworks.

There was a stark contrast to events two years ago when memorial benches were trashed, statues damaged alongside various acts of vandalism with riot police required to restore peace in George Square as IBROX FANS FOUGHT WITH EACH OTHER.

At the time Glasgow was in Tier 4 Lockdown conditions, people couldn’t visit relatives in care homes or hospitals but thousands vandalised George Square, twice bringing the city centre to a standstill in near war-zone conditions.

Led by The Spectator, the Scottish Daily Express, some opportunist politicians and Ibrox social media outlets likenesses have been made between two entirely different situations.

Reacting to that moon-howling Youzaf gave a very unconvincing interview to Radio Clyde.

The vast majority of football fans, if they are Celtic fans or indeed Rangers fans or any other fans frankly, celebrate in a way that is acceptable. They celebrate the important achievements of their club.

It is that small minority I’m afraid of that really celebrates in a way that is simply unacceptable.

That disorder that we saw, elements of that disorder we saw of course over the weekend, was just not acceptable.

I do think clubs should pay a greater toll and certainly when it comes to celebrations.

Perhaps there’s something the clubs should do to facilitate that celebration, perhaps within their own stadiums or in another way. I would like clubs to take more responsibility for title celebrations that ensue.

Meanwhile 17 people were arrested in Govan on Saturday at an Orange Order march, all summer long Glasgow City Council and Police Scotland will be facilitating these hate marches, apparently they are tradition and part of Glasgow’s culture.

What is the point being made here… They’re ‘celebrations’ were worse than ours and as such we’re blameless. Sorry, not entirely buying into that. Anti social behaviour is anti social behaviour and as soon as we cross the threshold into that realm, then we allow ourselves to be tarred with the same brush. I mean, what is the need to climb on top of a bus shelter and crash through it. Absolutely no need. But when posted online or highlighted in the news, we’re viewed as exactly the same as those cnutz by any neutral. Honestly, we scored an own goal here in terms of reputation and played right into the h@,n media’s hands unfortunately. And it just provides a platform for @rseh@les like Kevin’s to spew how both sets of ‘old firm’ are as bad as each other.

I agree with you to some extent.
There are small elements in every support that cause bother but generally they are that: small elements.
The problem with Saturday was that it was an early kick off which meant the fans descended on a commercial district during a work day.
That forced a lot of businesses, still attempting to recover from the pandemic, to close early as customers simply couldn’t gain access.
It’s only in the last three years fans have been allowed to gather like this.
Last year was an attempt to show, after the riot the previous year, how celebrations should be done.
Each year brings more potential for disorder.
However there is a level of hypocrisy here from the media when they fail to highlight more arrests at certain parades which are attended by significantly less people.
