The Daily Mail has reported that Scott Bain has signed a new three year contract ahead of any announcement on the club website.

At the start of this season Ben Siegrist was brought in as understudy to Joe Hart but since the turn of the year Bain has regained that title.

Bain hasn’t played a single minute of competitive action this season but it seems that the application and attitude of the former Dundee man has impressed Ange Postecoglou.

Late on Thursday night the Daily Mail reported:

CELTIC goalkeeper Scott Bain has put pen to paper on a three-year contract extension.

Understudy to Joe Hart, the 31-year-old was under contract at Parkhead until next summer.

Bain was tipped to leave the club after the signing of Benjamin Siegrist last summer, but the Swiss keeper has endured a difficult first season with injuries.

Siegrist was injured around Christmas time but back to full fitness he hasn’t been able to add to his two early season appearances in the Viaplay Cup.

Bain had an incredible route to Celtic, falling out with Neil McCann at Dundee to be sent on loan to Hibs before an injury to Craig Gordon in January 2018 saw Bain drafted in to Celtic on loan as third choice behind Dorus de Vries.

Making your debut at Ibrox is a big ask but Bain played a full part in a 3-2 victory in March 2018 as 10 men earned a famous victory on course to winning the SPFL title.

At 7am on Friday morning there was no mention of Bain’s new contract on the Celtic website.

Bain started out as a player with Aberdeen but got freed by them at 19. He then spent 3 seasons in the lower divisions with Alloa, almost certainly part-time and having to do a proper job as well, before getting back into the full-time ranks with Dundee. It wouldn’t surprise me then if he has ‘the right attitude’ and works hard in training, with young players and young keepers, being a good squad player. I imagine that might impress his manager too, who may well have spent part of his playing career as a part-timer in Australia before it became fully professional.

Don´t forget he is one of our home grown quota so although most want him chased without the likes of him , McCarthy Turnbull we wouldnt make the numbers required. So although the foreign signings are sexier and will probably be more important to the matchday squad, we still need a minimum of 8 home grown players .. so here is a question .. Are there any other players in the SPFL or indeed outside that would fit our style and allow the aforementioned McCarthy or others to be substituted in the quota? Could Mikey or Adam Montgomery come back and fill 2 of the 8 slots .. or are they not at the level we need ?
