Not even a moon-boot and two sticks were going to prevent Alastair Johnston from celebrating Celtic’s Scottish Cup semi-final win at Hampden.

Six months ago the Canadian defender was being linked with a post World Cup move to Celtic, as May opens up he has three wins and a draw on his Glasgow Derby CV after just 18 appearances for the hoops.

Before he next heads back to Montreal he is likely to have three domestic football medals to declare in his luggage.

Yesterday at Hampden wasn’t quite perfect for the defender, an outstanding 45 minutes saw Ryan Kent replaced by Fashion Sakala but nine minutes into the second half his race was run.

A collision with Borna Barisic left him flat out on the turf, it quickly became evident that there would be no recovery with Celtic playing for a minute before Tony Ralston got in place at right-back.

After a visit to the Treatment Room at Hampden he was back on the bench counting down the minutes as Celtic booked their place in the final of the Scottish Cup.

Johnston will have his injury assessed this week, there is another Glasgow Derby in 12 days time but a Scottish Cup Final appearance on June 3 is the big target as the former Montreal Imps defender looks to complete a dream introduction to Scottish football.

What a TEAM. Remember, the words of those fine sportsmen from Scumbrox, they didn’t loose. BTW, what happened to Ally the cheeky Chappy after full time, where was he? While Sutton stood and praised his team, Ally must have went down the rathole like his mates
