John Beaton will take charge of the Scottish Cup Final on June 3 between Celtic and Inverness Caley Thistle.

The Lanarkshire based official has only been in charge of three Celtic matches this season, the January Glasgow Derby at Ibrox plus both of Motherwell’s trips to Celtic Park in the SPFL.

At Ibrox in January Celtic had a penalty call at Ibrox missed by Beaton, on VAR duty Willie Collum decided that no offence had been committed.

The video clip below was from Motherwell’s October trip to Celtic Park, pre VAR and appears to show Ricki Lamie raising his arm to deflect away a cross. No penalty was given, in the closing minutes Callu McGregor was sent off.

Next month’s final will be the first with VAR in operation, despite extensive use in SPFL matches Celtic’s semi-final victory passed by without any major VAR interventions although Willie Collum pulled up injured in the warm-up with fourth official Don Robertson taking charge.

David Dickinson will be the fourth official at the final with Steven McLean on VAR duties.

So does anybody think David Dickinson is the real deal for the cup final.

  • Bob (original) says:

The only crumb of comfort for all non-sevco supporters is knowing

that with every shocker of a decision by the match / VAR officials,

the further away they are from ever being invited again to officiate at either

    the WC or Euros Finals.

Scottish match officials are simply not rated, outside of Scotland.

Maybe the SFA should find out why that is the case…?

Expect a Master-Class (non) performance from Beaton for this one!
The looking away from fouls on Celtic players. Decisions reversed for no reason. A pint in the Bristol Bar, jovialising with sevco punters afterwards, celebrating a great afternoon’s work!
Celtic will have the full might of the Huns alliance against them for this one. And Beaton is just the guy who can spearhead it for them!

  • Kevin Dunne says:

Why not just pluck a few from different lodges across Scotland would be same commitment denie anything in Celtic,s favour where possible, don,t look for ANY favours from VAR with super mason in charge . They,ve tried cheating us since introduction of VAR but STILL got the TITLE we earned
