Gregor Townsend has discussed details of a trip to Lenoxtown and sharing managerial experiences with Ange Postecoglou and his coaching staff.

After managing Glasgow Warriors Townsend took over the Scotland national team in May 2017 which means that he has outlasted all of the current top football bosses.

Management styles, fitness work and analysis can overlap between sports with the Celtic boss benefiting as much as the national rugby coach.

Despite his longevity in the business Postecoglou is always open to new ideas with Townsend giving The Sun the low-down on his look in at the round ball.

Meeting Ange was good. I watched the team train and they were very welcoming. John Kennedy, Gavin Strachan and Harry Kewell had lunch with me.

Ange had met me before training and then I went to his office for a couple of hours’ chat about coaching philosophy but his coaching journey too.

We had a lot of mutual experiences. He has coached in Japan and we’d had the World Cup in Japan in the same area, Yokohama, where he was coaching.

He knew a lot of Australian rugby coaches that I know well. So it was great just getting his philosophy on when he comes to a new club and what he’s looking for.

It was good, you pick up things, even picking things from their training – maybe things in the back of your mind get re-ignited. And I believe you take similarities away.

They’ve got a game that they believe in and we’ve got a game that we believe in as well. It’s high-paced attack which means that the guys have to be skilful, fit, and accurate.

When you can get those things right, you can cause the opposition problems..

Any snippet that can add to fitness or preparations can turn out to be very beneficial with Celtic getting the benefits of a natural man manager with his eyes and ears open to new ways of doing things.

Facing most opponents four times a season or more in football is bound to get repetitive, hearing different voices and perspectives inside Lennoxtown could bring future benefits to Celtic who have thrived since the words We Never Stop were heard on the training ground.
