Alastair Johnston has discussed the ‘verbal jousting’ that he had with Hearts fans as Celtic clinched the SPFL title at Tynecastle.
Injury ruled the defender out of Ange Postecoglou’s squad with Cameron Carter-Vickers, Stephen Welsh and James Forrest in the same situation.
Rather than watch a potential title clincher from afar the crocked quartet travelled through to Edinburgh with the home fans at Tynecastle not known for rolling out the welcome mat for anyone in green and white.
Asked about the crutches celebrations at Hampden and the Tynecastle experience Johnston said (2 minutes):
The physios were a bit madder than the manager. It was a special day (then) especially at Tynecastle, to clinch the title there. It was pretty good, there was quite a little group of us behind the bench and quite into it, we had a little bit of verbal jousting going on with some fans there as well.
We had a good time and of course we were just happy that the guys on the pitch managed to deliver and take us to that back-to-back league title.
Second half goals from Kyogo Furuhashi and Oh Hyeon-gyu delivered the victory and the title for Celtic with the injured players able to get on the pitch after the final whistle to celebrate with their team-mates.
After hostile visits to Tynecastle and Ibrox the champions will be on more familiar territory on Saturday when 60,000 fans welcome their heroes home to face St Mirren with the Scottish Cup Final just a fortnight away..
Johnston later revealed that following Sat Nav led him to being mobbed on London Road after taking a wrong turn. The video/podcast is full of great content, the players are all very relaxed, at ease and candid.
