Albion Rovers’ long run in senior football came to an end on Saturday, losing 1-0 to Spartans to go down 2-1 on aggregate with the Edinburgh side moving from the Lowland League to SPFL League Two.
It was a crushing blow for Rovers who now, like East Stirling, Berwick Rangers and Cowdenbeath they find themselves outside the senior ranks with little prospect of a return.
Rovers have been managed by Sandy Clark since the end of March but the former Hearts forward was unable to prevent the Coatbridge side from relegation to the Lowland League.

Caution video contains swearing.
One Spartans fan decided to goad Clark after the final whistle, bring up events from Dens Park in 1986 which wasn’t the wisest move at a small ground like Cliftonhill.
Clark’s reaction wasn’t the best either but it seems that a steward managed to take the heat out of the incident before it escalated.
Still rankles with him to this day!
