Barry Ferguson has joined Charlie Adam on board the Lydon Sykes bandwagon.

There has rarely been a more obvious Ibrox transfer target than the Australian born Scotland striker.

With a very limited style of play Dykes had the pleasure of playing under Micky Beale at the start of the 22/23 season and looks certain to be sold this summer rather than be allowed to run his contract down.

The 27-year-old has certainly done well for himself, moving from Queen of the South to QPR via Livingston after failing to make any impression as a professional in Australia.

Scoring 28 goals in three seasons in the Championship is nothing to get excited about but with the Scottish media ready to ramp things up he could be a target for Spurs and Arsenal by the time he moves to Ibrox.

The issue of a £2m transfer fee would obviously be a stumbling block but that could be an area that Bayern Munich provide some assistance in.

Explaining his views, Ferguson told Daily Record readers:

The more I watch our national team go from strength to strength under Steve Clarke, the more certain I am that Dykes is a ready made Rangers No.9. Put it this way, if I was Michael Beale I’d be all over the big man right now. They’ve already worked together at QPR so the manager knows what he’d be getting if he did bring the Aussie back over the border.

I know there will be some fans rolling their eyes at the thought of it but I don’t care what anyone else says, he’d be an absolute sensation in a Rangers shirt. I remember thinking the same thing when he was at LIvingston and the higher up he goes in the game, the better he’s becoming.

He’s not just a big throw back of a centre forward, although there is no doubt his physicality is one of his biggest strengths. He ruffles defenders up, he wins everything in the air, he knows where the back of the net is and he works his backside off.

But technically, he’s a lot better than most people give him credit for. He can take the ball down and bring others into play – which is exactly the job Alfredo Morelos did for the team when he was fit and looking interested.

So, yes, if I was Beale I wouldn’t think twice because it would be a no risk signing and Dykes would guarantee him 20 goals a season as well as everything else he would bring. There’s a lot of talk of him being linked with Championship clubs like Millwall now he’s going into the final year of his contract at Loftus Road. For something like £2million? It’s an absolute no brainer for my old team.

Ferguson has previously given Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos and Malik Tillman the no-brainer treatment, unfortunately money talks which why Barry won’t be watching those three at Ibrox next season.
