The Daily Record has ditched a story linking Scott Brown with a return to Celtic.

Currently managing Fleetwood Town the midfielder was critical to the success that Brendan Rodgers enjoyed first time around, leading Celtic to an invincible Treble in his first season.

Brown has looked washed up the previous season, combining his playing duties with helping out with the Celtic Development squad.

Anthony Stokes, Kris Commons and Charlie Mulgrew were given no role under Rodgers but the skipper was called to a meeting at one of Rodgers’ London homes before launching the most successful period of his career.

With the story appearing online late on Monday it is likely to have been included in the print edition of the Glasgow-based newspaper.

Brown left Celtic at the end of the 20/21 season, after a spell at Aberdeen he announced his retirement soon after Stephen Glass was sacked as manager of the Dons.

The former Celtic skipper cut his ties with Scottish football to take over as Fleetwood manager last summer, keeping them in mid-table in League One and reaching the last 16 of the FA Cup after beating QPR and Sheffield Wednesday.

With Fleetwood owner Andy Pilley facing a jail term over fraud charges there is some uncertainty at the club just as there could be an opening at Celtic under a new management team.

Well, Celtic quite naturally don’t want to be associated with a Club whose owner is facing
“Facing A Jail Term Over Fraud Charges”!
This is a job for the Non-Executive Chairman.
    “Get Me The Daily Record!”.
