Mark Hateley has urged Micky Beale to start signing strikers.

While the former QPR boss closes in on being able to field an entire team of midfielders his striking options have been further reduced since the end of the season.

As it stands Beale will start pre-season training with Kemar Roofe in the final year of his contract, Fashion Sakala and Antonio Colak.

During the majority of his time at Ibrox Beale selected Alfredo Morelos despite the chunky Colombian being out of shape and toiling for goals.

Colak and Sakala returned better scoring stats than Morelos but are untested over the course of a season with Beale clearly unconvinced by his remaining options.

James Tavernier can be counted on to score 15-20 goals in the season ahead but speaking to the Daily Record Hateley made it clear that goals and firepower are required at Ibrox:

They need a goalscorer. Actually, you don’t need one you don’t need two. You need three goalscorers. You need two that are in your starting 11 who can score more goals than your right back and your captain if you are going to have a chance of winning anything. That’s a given.

You have to score more goals than the opposition every week, it’s as simple as that. The game does not change. It is all about scoring goals and Celtic scored a lot more than Rangers last season.

That is why they won the league. Rangers have only really had one main goalscorer in the team over the last five years and that has been the full back. That has been the reality of the situation.

It is believed that Lawrence Shankland and Kevin Nisbet are out of Beale’s price range.
