Ian Maxwell is pushing for a new era of transparency over the VAR decisions that blighted the SPFL Premiership last season.

Introduced in October a month ahead of the World Cup break managers, players and fans were left in the dark as the SFA took a vow of silence on the technology with unconvincing lines produced from long range cameras to explain decisions.

Inside stadiums fans have regularly been left waiting for two or three minutes on some decisions with elements of the media trying to explain their way through decisions.

During the first match with VAR two penalties were awarded against Celtic won had seven penalties awarded against them, strangely the SPFL runners-up went through all 38 Premiership matches without having a penalty awarded against them.

Communication has been almost non-existent but speaking to The Scotsman ahead of a VAR summit Maxwell outlined his plans for next season:

I think it is right that we engage with clubs over the course of a season. They can give us some feedback, we can give them some feedback, they can see the stats that actually show we are getting a lot more decisions right. It is doing what it is supposed to do. There is still a bit of subjectivity, and that’s okay.

It’s about clarity, transparency, knowledge and understanding and how do we increase them in all those areas across the game. Whether that’s the clubs, the media, broadcasting, supporters. How do we enhance all of them?

From a knowledge and understanding perspective, I think that people are getting there now because they understand that the handball law is handball law. They don’t like it, but they don’t like the law. It’s not our referees because our referees are making the same decisions as everybody else.

Broadcasting the conversations between officials is being discussed in England and other countries but so far in Scotland fans generally just have guesswork to work out what has happened.

With at least six cameras at every Premiership match the SFA should be able to upload a few minutes of highlights from every match alongside the Law of the Game to explain why decisions have been taken.

“The handball law is handball law.”

Except when it comes to Sevco who are allowed to have 11 goalies in their pitch-sized penalty box.

    END THE SFA

“It’s about clarity, transparency, knowledge and understanding…”

…which the SFA buffoons know NOTHING about!

    Transparency???

And the deeply unimpressive Maxwell should just stay away from the TV cameras,

and remain in the Hampden bunker. 🙁
