Ronald de Boer has expressed his doubts about Micky Beale’s star signing.

While the Ibrox boss scrapes around looking at free agents and loan deals he has splashed out £3.5m signing Sam Lammers from Atalanta.

Being sent out on loan for the last three seasons is a decent indicator of what Atalanta think of the Dutchman with that view confirmed by a return of six goals at Sampdoria, Eintracht Frankfurt and Empoli.

Towards the end of last season Beale spoke about signing Number 9’s but De Boer told the Daily Record not to expect a goal-fest from Lammers:

Sam is also a technical player but where is he going to play? Is he going to play as a number ten? Or will he play with two strikers? If he wants to play with two strikers then Danilo is the perfect guy to play with Sam. But, if Dessers is feeling fine he is an amazing target man.

Sam was one of the biggest talents at PSV Eindhoven and he has a lot of quality. But can he do it? He has the potential but I wouldn’t put money on it. With him I still have a bit of doubt.

Danilo? My brother worked with him at Ajax and he liked him also. He’ll only get better in my eyes. He has a great work ethic and he scores some great goals. Dessers score goals also but he’s more of an opportunistic player. He can be crazy for you in a positive way but it’s like a coin on its side with him, it could go either way!

De Boer seems much more enthusiastic on Dessers and Danilo than the ‘striker’ that Beale has signed.

With less than six weeks to go until the Third Qualifying Round for the Champions League Beale will need to move fast to replace the goals of Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Malik Tillman and Scott Arfield.

    Goals aside,

Lammers stats indicate that up until today, he has been no more than a squad player,

although he did manage a ‘high’ number of appearances last season, at 19 games.

It looks like he could be sevco’s major signing of the summer,

so we know the drill: the SMSM will talk him up as a goalscoring superstar who will be “valued”

    at £20M/£30M in jig time!

Can Lammers step up to play every game

AND meet the bears’ expectations? 🙂

It’s only mild criticism and could be construed as constructive criticism but that won’t do for The Sevco Gullibilly Regiment…

They will as I type be in the process of doing a de Boer hole to drill him into the ground for daring to question The wonderful Beale deal !
