The Daily Record is claiming that Celtic are on the brink of requesting to speak to Enzo Maresca about their vacant manager’s job.

The 43-year-old former Juventus and Sevilla midfielder is a key part of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff with Celtic making their move following tonight’s Champions League Final against Inter Milan in Istanbul.

Installing Maresca would be a massive risk for Celtic to take on with just 14 matches in charge of Parma in Serie B on his managerial CV.

Transfer specialist Scott Burns writes:

Record Sport broke the story that Manchester City assistant coach Enzo Maresca was a leading candidate Celtic wanted to talk to. An approach to speak to the Italian will be made after today’s Champions League final between City and Inter.

Who do you want as the next Celtic manger?

Brendan- He is the best available

Kjetil Knutsen- Fresh, ambitious, exciting

Maresca was linked with Celtic before leaving Manchester City for Parma at the end of May 2021 just before Ange Postecoglou took over from Neil Lennon.

The 43-year-old may be an outstanding coach but management requires additional skills, especially at Celtic where he will be required to fill a big void with Postecoglou’s influence reaching every area of the club.

No.Just no. He failed miserably at Parma. I’d rather have the snake back.

  • KC67 says:

No surprise that the board are determined to make an arse of it. They’re stupid enough to think that the can get lucky twice.

Will the next boss be a full on ‘I’m the guv’nor ‘ type or a kow tower to an every Peter Lawwell whimsy type ? We can’t go back to those hand up the back pulling the strings days from PL . That would be insanity and a one step forward , two steps back fiasco ! Let’s get it right the first time of asking and throw the dart into the Clumpany’s beach ball …..

  • John says:

    Simply NO.

No experience as a manager. We laugh at the rookie across the city. This will be worse.

If backroom staff leave, who can he bring in?

Needs to be an experienced manager who can tweak our style with our players.

Man City do not play our style.

Plus we do not want to be part of this city group. What is the difference between owners owning two clubs and managers from a group. Just seems corrupt if you ask me.

Too much of a gamble. Experience, talent and a strong confident guy to deal with the succulent lamb corp,

Brendan given a 2 year deal witht he next man taking over in succession.

Maresca a disaster waiting to happen this is a huge totally unnecessary risk if true, personally id chew me lip n give it to BR, proven to b capable, ye he will leg it at some stage but so will they all

Wish we could get away from this Pep the Guru, everything and everyone he touches is gold. He has a lot to answer for in the state of European footballing styles. He might be successful but who wouldn’t be with all the financial resources and top players at his disposal. Maresca might be good but we need someone who is more than good, can handle the pressure and be a front man (like Ange was) for Celtic. I don’t think he has the temperament for it.

  • JimBhoy says:

Brendan & Broonie or Bilic. Those would be my selections. Need to get over the emotional thing with Brendan and Ange. It’s a job for them in a business where emotions are mostly with the paying customer.

Brendan is proven and Bilic would take no sh!t. Just what we need with a Bis press pack.

Maresca too much of a gamble.

  • George says:

Maresca with MON as Director of Football would get my vote.

  • Peter Cassidy says:

Only one Rodgers” Moyes plays terrible boring football don’t want any projects as a manager coach.Ange had plenty experience managing teams just hope the board don’t fuck it up big worry liewell involved.

  • John says:

One stand out candidate Knutsen, KNUTsen, KNUTSEN! Works on a shoe-string, gets players to play beyond themselves, has won the league and cups in his homeland. Will be able to go someway to replace the 5 or 6 we are going to lose in the next few weeks and with his philosophy may even persuade some to stay. /but go for guys who have got teams relegated more than once or been sacked multiple times. Celtic are going to Celtic this. A new manager should be starting on Monday. And it should be KNUTSEN. Good grief. ,
