Joe Dudgeon has been named as the driving force behind Celtic’s expected signing of Marco Tilio from Melbourne City.

The 32-year-old won’t be well known to Celtic fans but has been Lead First Team Scout since February when he left the City Football Group where his remit covered New York City and Melbourne City.

At the turn of the year he was bringing players into the A-League outfit but a few months later he is signing Tilio for Celtic.

David Friel of The Sun is well connected in Celtic matters, in February 2021 he broke the news of Neil Lennon’s resignation 10 hours ahead of the Stock Market announcement.

Last night The Sun reported:

Tilio, part of Australia’s World Cup squad, has been tracked by Celtic’s recruitment for months. First-team scout Joe Dudgeon previously worked for Melbourne City in his City Group role. Tilio has been flagged up as a signing with huge potential after an outstanding 2022/23.

Dudgeon was a player at Manchester United for two years without making any appearances, after spells at Hull City, Carlisle and Barnsley he took up a coaching role with Manchester City before joining the City Football Group in December 2019 where he was given a role covering Melbourne City and New York City.

A fee of over £1.4m is being quoted for Tilio who was a late call up to the Australian World Cup squad.

With three years hands on experience in the USA and Australia, Dungeon should have a very good grasp of any players that are ready and capable of making an impact at Celtic.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.
