A report from Saudi Arabia has claimed that Reo Hatate is close to joining Al Ittihad- the club strongly linked with signing Jota.

If both men were to leave Celtic this summer it would leave a huge gap in the hoops squad and present Brendan Rodgers with some significant rebuilding straight away.

Hatate is under contract until May 2026 but with the personal terms on offer from the Saudi League clubs are effectively left to negotiate the best transfer fee possible with little prospect of convincing a player to stay.

Translation: Celtic Jewel is close to moving to Al-Ittihad Club Ryo Hatate is on the verge of joining the dean in the current summer Mercato, according to press reports. A new strong deal is approaching the ranks of the Professional League champions.

Hatate joined Celtic in February 2022, a few months after Jota and made an instant impact with a stunning goal at Tynecastle followed by a double in his first Glasgow Derby.

Although he missed out on a place in the Japan squad for the World Cup Finals in Qatar he was back in favour last month for the Kirrin Cup.

Our first team squad will be gutted within 2 weeks. We are aout to be weakened to a worse level than when Ange was appointed. It will be the biggest challenge Rodgers has faced in years. It doesn’t take long for things to change dramatically. Ange leaving means none of his signings feel any loyalty to stay. They were playing for him. Looks like there are better options for them.

Oh look it’s misery guts John. Anyone would think you take some kind of perverse pleasure spouting your “The End Is Nigh” pish…or that your a hun verbalising his wettest of wet dreams…

If Jota and Hatate go it will be a blow for sure, but it will also be about 40-50 million for the transfer war chest, on top of the reported 30 mil we were already supposed to have svailable. So I for one am not worried, especially not when our main rivals are scraping about in the bargain cludgie for whatever shites have the fewest flies…not realising that shites with fewer flies are still shites….

Our own team are being dismantled around us but for some reason it’s all about the money as far as some fans are concerned.

Don’t be so dismissive of sevco they are putting a team and players together while we are playing catch up in that department as of just now.

  • Stevie says:

This has got Lawell written all over it. No comment whatsoever from Celtic denying or confirming any outcome.

    • CB says:

Nothing to do with Lawwell. This is 2 young men from a generation that values money making moves that suit their future and who are not constricted by the view that Europe is the whole footballing universe. They are also not Celtic fans so not ties, although let’s be honest if McGregor was offered £10m a year he would be gone as well.

We can only hope that the board get great deals for us so we can add it to the transfer pot. If we get £20m+ for Hatate after a year we will have made some profit given he was bought for £1.4m.

Our whole transfer strategy is to buy talent at a low price and sell for the maximum profit as Dutch and Portuguese teams do and then upgrade the team and move to the next level. When we do it well we make big profits, when we let emotions get in the way we end up with 2020 although somehow Lawwell still managed to get great fees for Edouard etc despite being in the last year of their contracts. Look at what happened at Ibrokes this summer losing 2 of their biggest assets for nothing.

Editor: Edouard was sold two months after Lawwell stepped down as CEO.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

This has got The Scottish Media mischief making DNA all over it – and anything they are near should and must not be believed by anyone of a Celtic persuasion as for every story they get correct, they get the other forty nine wrong…

  • Jack says:

Negativity look at ot another way with these players cant leave unless celtic agree a price hiata is on a 5 year contract jota is on a 5year contract if they go Celtic F.C. have seen players come and go and we have brought in as good if not better than the ones that goes its threevyears celtic would be moving these players on yes I would have liled to see them stay another season cause brendan would have loved coaching the two players pity we cant go there get out of spl in which we have never been treated as the top team as more like the team to stop rather cheer brendan will have a big war chest but its getting top players to come to spl we are in champions league which lifts profile and the clubs name Celtic F.C.1888 where legonds are made but still got that anchor spl we have not moved forward in years in fact we have went backwards why not change format 1pt for score draw 3pts for win none for non score draw and loss that would stop these clubs parking the bus time waisting so boring get rid off artificail pitches or make them water them seem spl sfa try to make it harder for the best footballimg team dont roll or water pitches refs that allow blatant time waisting by issuing warning yo goalkeepers at start of games cause theur at it from the start your there to keep the football moving no ball boys at some pitches at hampden two ballpersons at back of goals shiuld be four at that staduim such a distant to cover get our football back on track there are two teams that get can say they average full home gates

  • Terence Nova says:

I saw my first game at Celtic Park in 1958…and since then I have witnessed countless players leaving…and new ones arriving….It’s what happens in football.
For what it’s worth…I think our squad, minus 2 or possibly 3 who might move on…will still be good enough to hopefully take us to a domestic Treble again.
However…the yardstick now is Europe…and even if the 2 or 3 aforementioned are still here…I still think we will fall short of our European ambitions.
Bluntly…I don’t think we are European material yet…but hopefully Brendan and the players will prove me wrong.
Although when you remember that Sevco got to a European Final ( still can’t believe that) then all things are possible.
Oh and when you look at the replacements we have signed so far…I think the Club has known about players leaving for longer than we think.

    • the maister says:

Have to disagree. All things are not possible!
Rangers got to 2008 Final by playing
      “Anti-Football”
under Smith, just before they imploded.
And they got there as sevco in 2022 because Gerrard gave them his knowledge and experience to use in Europe.
Saudi Football is a relatively fledgling League.
Hatate or Jota won’t learn that much there because they’d be showcasing their skills to improve the status of that League.
Seeing out their contracts at Celtic under Brendan Rodgers would be more beneficial for their long-term careers, in my opinion.
They would get a lot more useful knowledge and experience playing in a European league with Champions League football.
      But alas,
“You Can’t Put An Old Head On Young shoulders”!
And they may choose the easy option, which is to take the dough!

  • Clara says:

Yes Terrance, seems to be a bit of seeing into the future by Celtic, Mooy retiring and now Jota and Hitate reported to be leaving, that’s maybe why Brendan came as he was promised a healthy chunk of any transfer fees to spend.

On the negative side both players coming in don’t look to be instant ist team players more so the Australian lad, I don’t see those two being the ” Power” that Brendan spoke about being added to the Team for a decent go at the Champions League and of course to win the League again is paramount.

  • Terence Nova says:

To be fair Clara…we have to trust that behind the scenes plans are or will be put in place to resolve the problems of players leaving…What do we mere supporters know.??Hail hail.

  • Sid says:

    Amazing news if true ?.
A combined 50M and some think we will be weakened?
Two players who never won a CL match.
This is the fastest way to improvement, the profit must go on the pitch however.

  • Robert Downey says:

hope this one is not true, Hatate would be much more difficult to replace than Jota.
Reading in their press interviews Hatate seems the more career orientated and now he has made it to the Japanese international side, I think he would like to stay there. That’s my thoughts anyway.
Aside of that, it would be a massive blow to Celtic and BR in particular if he lost two of his most productive players.
Celtic would have plenty of money in the bank, BUT they would face a massive job trying to persuade replacements of similar quality to come to the SPFL

  • Nigel Coyne says:

I can’t see him going there to a league that is mainly for players to get a last huge pay rise+then retire as they join from the best leagues. Spurs will probably bid for him now that he looks elsewhere.
