Celtic’s Korea friendly set to go ahead despite Wolves decision

Celtic’s trip to Korea looks like going ahead with local side Incheon United ready to replace Wolves.

After two matches in Japan the hoops were scheduled to take on Wolves on July 26 but in midweek the English side pulled out of their pre-season trip to South Korea.

That could have reduced Celtic’s pre-season schedule from four matches down to three but a report in The Sun reveals a local solution:

Organisers Stadium X are desperately trying to arrange a replacement game instead for Celtic and have lined up K-League outfit Incheon United instead to play.

They stated: “While the visits of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Roma have been cancelled, a match between Celtic and Incheon United is still progressing.

“We are changing our original schedule and promoting a match now between Incheon and Celtic, who have national striker Oh Hyeon-gyu in their team.

“We would like to express our deepest apologies to football fans in South Korea for the cancellation of some of the matches.”

Celtic have never played before in Korea but with Oh Hyeon-gyu in the current squad and building on the legacy of Ki Sung-Yeung and Cha Du-Ri finding replacement opponents seems a sensible move.

A game against English opponents would be worthwhile but ahead of the SPFL opener on August 5 Rodgers will see his team in action against Athletic Club of Bilbao in the Testimonial match for James Forrest.
