The Daily Record really doesn’t know how to portray Calvin Bassey’s proposed move to Brighton.

On Twitter all is happy and glorious with windfalls all round but on the sports pages they just can’t manage to spin it into another boost for Micky Beale’s war-chest.

Last summer when Ajax were duped into signing the former Leicester City starlet a fee of £25m was widely accepted along with substantial add-ons from the inevitable move to a top six club in the EPL.

A year later the Record is putting the fee at £18.7m with Brighton expected to pay roughly the same fee for the the Nigerian bombscare.

Two weeks ago the Record was all in with details of the Malik Tillman windfalls but the sports team have decided to play it straight with the Bassey deal.

It seems that the Record’s Twitter account is defaulted to produce positive news for their army of Ibrox leaning followers.

There is no doubt that a year ago a very healthy profit was turned in on Bassey, unfortunately that money was spent on Ridvan Yilmaz, Ben Davies, Rabbi Matondo and Antonio Colak who are all on long term contracts.

Meanwhile Ajax have been through two managers and a CEO since someone took the ill-fated decision to believe the Scottish hype on Bassey.

Must’ve thought Jota’s departure and making Celtic a fortune was going to get officially announced and splashed all over the place sometime this morning

So they just had to rush out a ‘ Windfall ‘ story for the huns

No doubt be another one when the boy does go

Something along the lines of a ‘ Multiple top European sides interested in Hagi ‘

    Brighton? Davie weir? Ex sevco?
You can take the Hun out of sevco. But you can’t take sevco out of the Hun?!

  • the maister says:

This boy is an U-21, sold on a Free Transfer to sevco. Nobody fancied him!
Two years later he is sold to Ajax for £25M, allegedly and doesn’t seem to fit. Ajax changes it’s executive functionaries.
Now Brighton are willing to pay a fee for him?
I wonder whit Davie Weir sees in him? He’s the Technical Director and would have last say on this I reckon.
He wouldn’t be signing him just because they are both ex-sevco, would he?
But on the back of this signing sevco reap a windfall.
Now the boy is back where he was hoping to be all along. In the EPL.
A kind of roundabout three year journey-route, where the twice big-time financial winners in it all are undoubtedly sevco!
Just lucky, I guess, Davie, eh?
