Adam Montgomery has joined Fleetwood Town on a season long loan.
With Greg Taylor and Alexandro Bernabei the established left-backs at Celtic getting out early to play at a strong level is exactly the sort of challenge that the 20-year-old requires in the critical year of his Celtic contract.
With a deal that runs until May 2025 the next 12 months are vital if Montgomery is to kick on and put himself into contention for a first team role at Celtic. If he falls short he’ll have picked up priceless experience in a tough league that extends to 46 matches per season.

Montgomery made a couple of appearances towards the end of the Lockdown then made an impact in the early stages of Ange Postecoglou’s first season at Celtic.
After 30 minutes away to AZ Alkmaar he had to replace the injured Greg Taylor in the Europa League Play Off, a few months later he supplied the assist to Jota at Pittodrie as Celtic secured their first away win in the SPFL for eight months.
Spending last season at St Johnstone under two different managers, successfully fighting off relegation will have added to his experience, now under Scott Brown he has the opportunity to really prove himself.
No he’s a haddie.
That Bhoy doesn’t have to prove himself in my books. That assist for Jota, in that game, was more than enough to prove to me that he has got it!
Yet, we signed Bernabi. Nothing against Bernabi but there’s a touch of the algorithm there!
Montgomery is Scottish. Maybe theyjust want him to learn the hard way!
But I’d have him in my squad, as a substitute for Taylor.
And I think he’s one for the future at Celtic.
