Vasilias Barkas is reported to be close to signing for Turkish side Ankaragutsou.

With a year left to run on his contract the goalkeeper came to an arrangement with Celtic that terminated his deal, allowing the former AEK Athens keeper to move on as a free agent.

After two disastrous seasons at Celtic Barkas rebuilt his confidence and reputation at Utrecht but it seems that the Dutch side were never likely to finance a permanent move.

With that season behind him, at the age of 29 the keeper has found himself in demand with Greek website Sportime reporting:

The new stage in his career seems to have been found by Vassilis Barkas , who is none other than Turkey and Ankaragutsou.

The Greek goalkeeper, as we revealed to you, was released by Celtic and several teams were looking at him.

The neighboring country, and with the latest case of Kourbelis , has shown that it values ??the Greek players too much and thus the Turkish team immediately showed its interest.

Vassilis Barkas certainly suffered a lot going to Celtic , losing his starting position.

Then came the loan from Utrecht , who found his feet and reminded of the very good goalkeeper we all knew.

Now having several proposals, he is closer financially to Ankaragutsou , with whom it seems that he will immediately sign a contract.

A very good choice for the Greek footballer, who will find many Greeks in Turkey, to show him the… places.

Ankaragutsou finished last season in 11th place in the 19 team Turkish Superliga.

Celtic still have to deal with Albian Ajeti and Ismaila Soro who are the most costly of last season’s loan transfers back at the club.
