Within football Kenny Dalglish is well known for having the driest sense of humour.
The former Liverpool boss is never fully comfortable with the media, hesitant to give away his real feelings.
An icon of the seventies and eighties, a stand at Anfield is named in his honour in recognition of his contribution as a player and manager plus the leadership he showed through the darkest days in the history of the club and the city itself.
It is more than 20 years since Dalglish was directly involved in Scottish football but his views are still sought after with the Sunday Post publishing a weekly column of his thoughts on the game.
As Michael Beale attempts to undergo a Revolution he is hindered by a number of legacy issues which mainly centres around last summer’s spending spree which sees Ben Davies, Rabbi Matondo, Antonio Colak and Ridvan Yilmaz sitting on lucrative contracts.
Looking into his crystal ball for the season ahead Dalglish highlights one of the highest paid players at Ibrox as a potential game-changer.
Kemar Roofe made six substitute appearances last season, scoring twice in-between Instagram posts of football boots and egg-timers suggesting that he is about to burst back into action.
Picking up on his Sunday Post column, the Daily Record reports Dalglish saying:
A big bonus could be if Kemar Roofe can get a solid pre-season under his belt and pus his way into the team. There is no doubt he is a quality player and knows his way to goal.
Injuries have blighted his Rangers career in the past two years but he has so much to offer. I believe he was in Qatar for extra rehab sessions. I hope it all pays off for him. I’m sure Michael will be delighted if it does.
But he is still looking for another striker to come in and he is quite right to do so. Listen, you can never have enough goalscorer to choose from. But they do not grow on trees and they most certainly do not come cheaply. It will be interesting to see how Rangers get on in this department.
In three seasons at Ibrox Roofe has started 27 SPFL fixtures and came off the bench 21 times, expecting 38 appearances next season and contributing over 20 goals seems to be a tall order.
We need to stop laughing and having a go at sevco just now and concentrate on the SHAMBLES at our own club with Jota getting ready to leave with others lined up to give it the toes as well.
At least sevco have their season up and running with the players they have brought in,at this moment and time we are standing still.
The fact that Jota is off because he has been offered almost 200 grand a week DOES NOT really indicate any SHAMBLES to be honest. If the others move on then as long as the football dept get the money to invest and replace them then that is what the model is SUPPOSED to do. We want to be like the likes of Salzburg, Ajax , Benfica etc then cry because our favourite player leaves after a year or so at a PROFIT. So basically we have to ask ourselves if a) we want to stay where we are holding on to players who want to leave just because they supposedly “get it” or b) see them as assets that we should move on when the fee is high. .. otherwise we get the Lennon season , Ajer Edouard etc wanting away or Kent and Fat boy who they should have sold 2 seasons ago when someone wanted them
Kemar Roofe – the thug’s thug.
Desperate stuff if sevco is hoping he’s going to start playing football ! 🙁
Jeezo, just read the headline that Gerrard ‘was still a contender’ for a Saudi
club manager role – in the absence of any English club offer.
Can already hear the cogs turning in the SMSM.
How long before we have the predicatable headlines:
“Gerrard could be looking to splash Saudi millions on [TavPen / Goldson, etc..]”.
An ex Celt hoping it ‘all pays off’ for Roofe – I hope Dalglish is referring to his injury rehab and not his potential for success on the pitch instead but there again ex Celtic player and manager or not he has to be positive about Sevco to get his name in the paper…
On the picture off Roofe and his disgusting thuggery – bloody hell that should have got a ten match suspension, I think that was a European match for The Huns and I can’t remember the exact outcome by the officials but if it was domestic and Don Robertson on the whistle and Andrew Dallas on VAR it would of course in their eyes only merit a grudgingly held up yellow card !
the biggest threat to celtic this coming season are the bent referees , if that shower of cnuts cost us we must go after their enabler masters !! clear them out from top to bottom !! dalglish is a clown , enough said
