Liel Abada is a transfer target for Fenerbahce according to Stephen McGowan.

The Daily Mail reporter is generally closer to transfer news inside Celtic than anyone else with a long track record of exclusives.

Abada has been linked with a move since the turn of the year but the speculation seemed to have died down following the £25m sale of Jota to Al Ittihad.

Losing a second winger would be a major blow to Brendan Rodgers with the Israeli internationalist looking sharp in Celtic’s 6-4 defeat from Yokohama F Marinos.

In the Daily Mail McGowan writes:

Celtic winger Liel Abada has been added to big-spending Fenerbahce’s list of summer targets.

The 21-year-old Israeli international played from the start for Brendan Rodgers’   side in a rollercoaster 6-4 defeat to Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan on Wednesday. And Turkish giants Fenerbahce want to make him their second signing from the Scottish Premiership having already snapped up Ryan Kent from Rangers.

The Parkhead club have already sold Portuguese winger Jota to Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia for £25million. Abada, who is under contract until 2026, would command a fee in excess of £10m.

In addition to Kent, Fenerbahce have brought in Edin Dzeko and Dusan Tadic this summer, but they face an uphill struggle to persuade Abada  that his future lies in the Turkish Super Lig. Signed for £3.5m from Maccabi Petah Tikva in 2021, Abada has attracted interest from clubs around Europe.

Having lost Jota at the same time as Aaron Mooy announced his retirement the hoops squad is in serious need of strengthening with just over a fortnight to go until the SPFL season gets underway.

Celtic recently got Callum McGregor, Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi to sign contract extensions but players like Abada, Matt O’Riley and Reo Hatate will be relatively modestly paid based on their status when they signed.

Fans are looking for new signings to strengthen the squad rather than to replace favourites that have delivered goals and trophies over the last two seasons.
