Off his rocker- Keown lets rip over Tierney to Celtic reports

It seems that transfer speculation linking Kieran Tierney with Celtic has hit a very raw nerve with Gary Keown of the Daily Mail.

It does appear to be an incredibly far fetched notion that a 26-year-old on a massive EPL contract for another three years would view a season in the SPFL as a positive career move.

With Tierney however there are a couple of minor factors that might just make the move happen, just over a decade ago Robbie Keane found himself in a very awkward situation at Spurs and ended up raising a green and white scarf into the midnight sky at Celtic Park.

Newspapers and websites are full of speculative stories at this time of year, agents are working round the clock to drum up interest in their clients with social media adding to the transfer ingredients.

In his Daily Mail column, Keown lets rip with:

HOW much longer must we suffer this almost daily diet of internet updates on Kieran Tierney supposedly returning to Celtic?

Tierney, at 26 years of age, would be off his rocker to come back to Scotland at this stage in his career. To a league in which top-five outfits get thumped off mobs from Andorra and whatnot? And a club whose own reputation in Europe can barely get any worse after years and years of unrelenting failure?

In any case, what have Celtic to gain, anyway, by spending a huge whack of their budget on a loan deal for a guy who plays in a position in which they already have two players?

Brendan Rodgers should be looking at investing a decent wodge of cash on a new goalie to replace 36-year-old Joe Hart instead.

Even the most ardent Hoops fan would agree — if the reaction on social media to the current No?1’s latest display against Wolves in yesterday’s friendly in Dublin is anything to go by.

A large section of the fanbase clearly want a younger, up-and-coming model with the best years of his career ahead of him, strong sell-on value and the capacity to leave the heart-rate stable when the ball arrives at his feet. Understandably so.

Stuff about bringing back Tierney, meanwhile, just makes no sense on any level. Can sanity please prevail and someone make it stop?

Elsewhere in the Daily Mail there is a section dedicated to Transfer Gossip, for years the Mail and other publishers have speculated over Harry Kane leaving Spurs, this window there is the newcomer to the block of players leaving the EPL for Saudi Arabia such as Jordan Henderson, Riyad Mahrez, Ngolo Kante and Allan Saint-Maximin.

The same hack that recently claimed Rodgers failed first time around at Celtic

I wonder who he supports ?

  • John Copeland says:

Keown makes a very nice middle class living attempting to cover everything he said was inferior about Scottish football …every week ! Talk about hypocrisy ? He draws the big ,fat salary ,but is secretly appalled by the standards on display . There is a word that comes to mind to describe this charlatan …and it rhymes with snob !

  • Drew says:

Keown a well known hun…slags off the Scottish game only to belittle our successes..he’s a right wee shit

  • Andrew Lamb says:

This twat makes a decent point regarding Tierney not being needed at Celtic and the overall standard of SPL clubs record in Europe but the whole article is dripping in hatred for the game up here. The game that pays his wages by the way like Keevins is the worst type of journalist, a shit-stirring pryck, also, how would he know KT’s reasoning? He obviously loves the club and maybe misses his family and mates. This embarrassment will be out of work shortly as the rag he writes? for is surely doomed and he hasn’t got the smarts or talent to get another gig.

  • John S says:

The guy’s right, Taylor and Bernebei cover this position.

  • Si says:

Bernabei covers nothing and is horrific defensively, will never ever do, full stop.
