Gary O’Neil has admitted that he will have to reassess the future of Daniel Podence.

The winger has been out of favour at Wolves with speculation earlier in the week that he is attracting interest from Celtic.

O’Neil has barely had time to draw breath over the last week, on the eve of the new season he was handed the Wolves job, took his side to Old Trafford and now has to juggle with complex transfer issues with less than two weeks to go in the transfer window.

The financial straight-jacket applied by Sustainability rules forced Julen Lopetegui to quit the club with O’Neil left to pick p the pieces.

Soon after Bournemouth lost 9-0 at Anfield last season the club turned to O’Neil to pick up the pieces left by Scott Parker.

At Molineux he faces a similar task with every player now a contender although there is a complication with Podence now into the final year of his contract.

The local Express and Star reports:

Jonny Castro Otto and Daniel Podence have both been allowed to leave this summer but not yet found a move, while Goncalo Guedes is now back at Compton nursing an injury after time away.

Podence was even left out of training under Julen Lopetegui, but the forward and Jonny are both back with the group and new head coach O’Neil says he will assess all three before making a decision on their future.

He said: “I’m looking at all of them. Things move quickly in transfer windows and things can change, but they’re training with the group and are giving everything.

Both Jonny and Podence have trained really well. Guedes is doing a little bit of rehab work on a small issue he has.

But they’re in with the group and we’re assessing all of them. Everyone is together at the moment and it’ll remain that way until something changes.”

Wolves’ financial concerns this summer mean they have made just two free signings this summer, despite gaps in the current squad.

Celtic appear to be in a vastly different financial position to Wolves with funds to spend but only a small band of players of sufficient quality that could fit in with the salary structure.

Time is really starting to tick away in the window, beyond next week any deals will have a look of panic with very little transfer news slipping out of Celtic.

Why are we pressing to get another midfielder/winger in.
Is the one’s we have beening sold off .
Has no one told us yet.

Wolves need to make a profit this year of at least £5M,

to avoid FFP penalties…after posting about £155M losses over the last 2 years.

Interested clubs are in a strong negotiating position: get a Wolves player on loan,

and even share his wage burden? Might go down to wire on Sept.1st though…?

    (Never heard of Podence.)
