Barry Ferguson joins the pile on for Micky Beale’s flop striker

Barry Ferguson has admitted that Cyriel Dessers is badly in need of a performance- and goal- to kick start his Ibrox career.

The former Cremonese striker did score a tap in at home to Servette but followed that up with a nightmare display at home to Livingston that had the boo-bears out in force before he was substituted.

Micky Beale dropped Dessers for the return match with Servette, when he was sent on in the second half he missed two decent chances which confirmed the doubts that most Ibrox fans are harbouring.

Comparisons with last season’s Alfredo Morelos aren’t flattering with many bears hoping that the chunky Colombian is holding off on a new deal elsewhere to make a dramatic return to star in Beale’s Revolution.

Reviewing Beale’s summer Galacticos, Ferguson tells Daily Record readers:

As for Dessers, I feel for the big man because the fans were on his case at Ibrox last weekend and he dropped onto the bench against Servette. That’s a double dunt to deal with so early in his Rangers career.

This might sound daft but it’s almost as if he’s trying too hard to make a good impression and, the more desperate he gets, the less is coming off. When he smashed one off the post on Tuesday night it summed up his current luck.

Dessers looks like a player who needs one big moment just to take the weight off his shoulders. It didn’t happen in Switzerland but he’s a stick on to start against Morton and this tie might be the perfect opportunity for him to get fully up and running.

What I would say about all of them is there’s no question in terms of their application – they’re all busting a gut to make an impact.

One thing is for sure, they won’t get the luxury of time to settle into Rangers. They have to make the most of it.

Dessers will be 29 in December and is under contract until June 2027, last season he scored five goals in Serie A as Cremonese were relegated.
