In just 71 words Celtic have announced the departure of Carl Starfelt with the defender off to Spain to play for Celta Vigo.
Since Saturday it has seemed like a matter of timing before the Swede moved on, the fourth signing from the pivotal 2021 summer transfer window to leave Celtic this year.
In January bids were accepted for Josip Juranovic and Giorgos Giakoumakis, at the end of June an offer came in for Jota from Al Ittihad that was simply too good to be turned down by any of the parties involved.
Late this morning the Celtic website announced:
After two full seasons with Celtic, Carl Starfelt has left the club to join La Liga side RC Celta.
The Swedish central defender joined the Hoops in July 2021 from Rubin Kazan and played 87 times for the Hoops, scoring three times.
He leaves having won five domestic honours during his time at Paradise, including last season’s historic Treble. Everyone at Celtic wishes Carl Starfelt every success in his future career.
The arrival of Maik Nawrocki has cushioned the disruption of Starfelt leaving, breaking up his impressive partnership with Cameron Carter-Vickers that helped to deliver five domestic trophies out of six.
Beyond that pairing Ange Postecoglou struggled to find consistency of performances, especially when Carter-Vickers was missing.
Celtic have been strongly linked with Elfsborg defender Gustaf Lagerbielke but with three weeks left in the transfer window hoops supporters are looking for recruitment to be cranked up ahead of going into the group stage of the Champions League.
Good luck to Starfelt. An underrated player in my opinion particularly when you consider he wasn’t playing on his weak side.
He was another Celtic defender pilloried from day one by a relentless media campaign despite all evidence to the contrary.
Meanwhile more questions have been asked in the last week about David Turnbull’s contract situation than were asked in the whole of last season regarding Morelos and Kent.
So what was the fee I asked on the Celtic blog earlier but got a rubber ear.
Heard it was £5 mil, seems fair enough but not sure tbh

At the Christmas party, me pal was dressed as Santa Claus. Very rough school, inner City.
A wee chap was eyeing him and seemed to recognise him. I thought
“He Seems to Know My Mate!?”
Then the wee guy stood up, looked at my pal and shouted
“I Know Where You Live!”.
I thought,
“Goodness Me!”
And the wee boy shouted
“The North Pole”!
Ho Ho, Ho Ho Ho!
Merry Christmas!
“It’s A Cracker!”
Boom Boom!
Should sevco meet up with PSV in the next round don’t be surprised to read in the media that Sillyman can’t play for PSV due to him being 10% owned by sevco, you heard it here first.
Don’t be silly scud. sevco have to beat that team to go through to the next round. They could do with doing pre-season training again to give themselves a chance.
But that ainn’t going to happen now, is it scud?
Listened to some of the sevco game on BBC ( bigoted ba”‘:;ds club) and their commontater actually said, “this is the ninth club from this region that WE have played” Impartial?? Not the BBC!! Shocking!!
Re new signings back to penny-pinching waiting till the last minute to sign someone Welcome back Mr lawwell.
Bill Leckie in Monday’s Sun, was critical of Celtics first two games. Not one word of praise!! How that man loves Celtic!!! John Hail Hail
