Stephen McGowan has named the three priority positions that Celtic are looking to strengthen in the next six days.

A deal with ARIS Thessalonika for Luis Palma seems to be well underway but there are plenty of other areas of the team needing strengthened.

Since Brendan Rodgers took over from Ange Postecoglou he has approved the signing of four ‘project’ deals with Maik Nawricki and Gustaf Lagerbielke signed to replace Carl Starfelt. Technically Tomoki Iwata signed on Rodgers’ watch, his loan from last season converted to a permanent move.

Mark Lawwell now directs all recruitment issues with the spotlight firmly on Celtic’s Recruitment Team as the transfer window comes to a close.

Covering the expected arrival of Luis Palma, in the Daily Mail McGowan adds:

The capture of Palma is likely to trigger a busy week of transfer activity for last season’s treble-winners.

Hit by a triple whammy of injuries in central defence and an injury to midfielder Reo Hatate, Brendan Rodgers will look to add to the squad before next weekend’s first Old Firm clash of the season against Rangers.

Left-back and central defence are now priority positions, with a goalkeeper likely if Benjamin Siegrist goes out in search of first-team action.

It is difficult to see why Siegrist’s situation has any impact on transfer activity, since signing as a free agent from Dundee United in June 2022 he has played in two League Cup ties.

A new left-back would suggest that Alexandro Bernabei has no future with Greg Taylor demoted to the role of back-up.
