Speculation increases over Tierney’s Celtic move

Celtic are clear favourites with BetVictor to sign Kieran Tierney.

The defender was first linked with Celtic in late June but that seemed to be a far fetched notion with his Arsenal wages reported to be around £120,000 a week.

With a contract running until 2026 there seemed to be no chance of Celtic being able to offer half that amount of top of a record transfer fee, close to the £25m that they received in 2019 when Tierney moved to London.

Aston Villa and Newcastle were expected to put in bids for the defender but for a variety of reasons those have failed to materialise.

With Tierney failing to make Arsenal’s matchday squad for either of their first two EPL matches there appears to be limited options available to the 26-year-old.

At 10.48 this morning the Daily Record reported:

Celtic are now the clear favourites to land Kieran Tierney this summer, according to online sportsbook BetVictor.

His next move is in the balance with no Arsenal game time and Newcastle plumping for Lewis Hall. Brendan Rodgers refused to rule out a return earlier this summer for the man who left Parkhead in a £25m deal last summer.

Kieran Tierney Transfer Odds:

  • Celtic – 4/1

  • West Ham – 12/1

  • Any Saudi club – 12/1

  • Any German club – 12/1

  • Any Italian club – 12/1

  • Any French club – 12/1

  • Any Spanish club – 12/1

  • Aston Villa – 12/1

The odds don’t specify whether it is on a loan or permanent move.

Bookmaker odds are rarely anything other than an attempt to reign in mug punters or to generate interest for a particular firm.

A limited number of scenarios are open to Tierney, until he signs a deal elsewhere there is bound to be speculation that he is on his way back to Celtic.

Loan move, where we pay just part of his wages, doesn’t seem unrealistic or unreasonable. We – and even Sevco – have managed to get the richer clubs to agree to that sort of thing before. He can play the CB role too, which would be very handy just now.

I was walking down the road today. And I sat down on a bench.
And then this Big White Rabbit went by.
And as he did so, he took out of his pocket, a pocket-watch.
And he was muttering to himself
“I Am Going To Be Late. I Am Going To Be Late”!
