Brendan Rodgers has spoken out about his frustrations over the growing injury list that he is having to deal with.

The losses of Reo Hatate and Oh Hyeon-gyu can be covered but being without 75% of your central defenders is hard to work around.

One by one Cameron Carter-Vickers, Stephen Welsh and Maik Nawrocki have picked up knocks which will see them out of action for varying lengths of time.

With the returning manager trying to impose his own style on the squad his plans are being side-tracked to deal with a growing injury list.

Rodgers told Celtic TV:

It’s very frustrating. Obviously, you want to have your best players available and clearly that’s not the case for us. But you have to get on with it. It’s just been the nature over the course of pre-season. We just have to deal with it, we’ve got lots of capable players in the squad and I’m sure they will step up.

Liam Scales and Tomoki Iwata have yet to play any competitive football this season but one of them looks certain to play alongside Gustaf Lagerbielke against St Johnstone on Saturday.

That will just be the Swedes second match as a Celtic player with fans thinking ahead to match number three when Rodgers takes a brand new defence to Ibrox.

One consolation for the hoops boss is that Alistair Johnston in likely to be back in action for the match against St Johnstone.
