Alan Stubbs has half spilled the beans by revealing that a referee told him that Celtic would never get a penalty against Rangers.

The former Celtic and Everton defender was speaking on a podcast by William Hill which discussed the recent controversy in England where Mike Dean admitted that he didn’t referee Anthony Taylor to review a decision in a Chelsea v Spurs match because it would create grief for a mate.

Referees are well known for sticking together and backing each other up, the only surprise about the Stamford Bridge incident is that it has been revealed a year after it happened.

Stubs played for Celtic between 1996 and 2001 when Hugh Dallas was in his pomp, surrounded by ‘characters’ like Kenny Clarke, Willie Young and Jim McCluskey with all three good friends with True Blue Bobby Tait who was just too out there to be given a Glasgow Derby. Tait used his influence in other fixtures.

With nine-in-a-row at stake in his first season at Celtic Stubbs witnessed plenty of bizarre decisions, long before Tom Boyd described them as Honest Mistakes.

Don Robertson will referee Sunday’s Glasgow Derby with Alan Muir on VAR, both have plenty of previous in Celtic matches, the most recent was when roles were reversed away to Kilmarnock two weeks ago in the Viaplay Cup.

Alan Stubbs has just said something very similar to what Terry Butcher said about referees in Scotland . Incredibly Terry Butcher after saying what he did went on to be involved with the Scottish national football team . Both should be asked to name those referees . Or they will never work in Scottish football ever again . Well that would only have been asked of Terry Butcher had the referee been a CELTIC Man

  • Tony B says:

This is pointless unless he names and shames the referee.

If he doesn’t, you would have to ask why.

It’s hearsay, no proof, could be sued for slander/defamation or something….

2 stonewalled dicanio 96 and mahe 98 at the cespit! Listen Dallas gave them a pen after a fan threw a coin !! He penalised our team for that and that’s a fact!! His son now on var put the TV off in daziel golf club near carfin after we scored against the poison and walked out!! Sick!!Another fact! This the people we entrust for a normal fair game!! They are bigots to the core and alsi have the” unconcious bias” factor when trying to apply the rules as we saw at Kilmarnock and the lack of penalties ever given against the new club even with var!! What a corrupt place is Brigadoon Scotland regards ” old raingerz” and this new zombie club! It’s all through society there it’s disgusting we should left decades ago as I stated on many occasions there been thousands of incidents that back up what stubb says as we know only to well!

There is no point in giving us half a story without the names ? If it is a true honest to God story and I was Celtic FC manager ,I would have hauled the team off the park ,then given the most informed ,accurate , condemning and factual press interview ever ,without holding back ….full bore ! Why did Stubbs leave it until now to allegedly spill the beans about bent referees ? Why not immediately after the said game in which he is referring too ? Why all these years later ?

  • Scud Missile says:

Stubbs needs to put that name out regarding the ref as he could still be influencing other officials with his take towards Celtic.

  • Scud Missile says:

Can you imagine this was a sevco player doing that interview and revealing that, the KLAN would be going TONTO and there would be protests outside Hunden just now screaming for the name of the ref from the SFA.

  • Tam says:

A CELTIC player was found guilty of saying something racist to an Aberdeen player….. and the reason he was found guilty… because he “probably” did say it . So using this logic…if Stubbs names the referee and he had never given a penalty for CELTIC against “the rangers” he probably did say that

  • the maister says:

My money’s on it was Dallas. He wouldn’t care about making a remark like that!
