It seems that the phrase cheerleader has struck a very raw nerve with Barry Ferguson.

Seven years ago that phrase had a similar impact on Derek Johnstone as Chris Sutton told a few home truths live on Radio Clyde, the former Celtic striker was never invited back despite creating a classic piece of broadcasting.

When Ferguson was in his playing peek slipping into the media seemed like a cosy gig, hoping that Rangers would edge out Celtic for honours.

In 2012 Ferguson watched his club die, since then he has been hoping against hope that Charles Green’s Tribute Act could put a halt on Celtic’s runaway success.

Today was to be the day, Fergie cheered through every summer signing then rubbed his hands in glee as Ange Postecoglou’s side was dismantled bit by bit wit little in the way of transfer activity to burst the confidence at Ibrox.

Caller Derek certainly upset Ferguson with his cheer-leader claim. With Fergie applying top spin to everything coming out of Ibrox he basically echoes the thoughts of Kenny Miller, Kris Boyd, Neil McCann, Kevin Thompson, Rory Loy, Lee McCulloch and Steven Thompson.

Ferguson should be on for a few Go Radio shifts during the week before penning another masterpiece for the Daily Record, no doubt explaining how pure hurt he’d be feeling after losing to Celtic and being determined to use those feelings to ensure that there is a different result next time.

It goes some way to explaining why they are soooooooo angry all the time….. they can’t comprehend how they keep losing if Barry, Kenny, Kris, Neil et al are always telling them they are absolute world-beaters, when in fact they have played 4, won 2 (Livingston and Ross County) lost 2 (Kilmarnock and Celtic) and are currently a mid-table side who have just been torn a new @rsehole by PSV Eindhoven costing them many millions of pounds.
