Kelvin Wilson has urged Brendan Rodgers to hand Gary Hooper a return deal to Celtic.

The striker enjoyed three hugely successful years under Neil Lennon a decade ago but is now a free agent after a spell globe trotting to add to his scoring achievements.

Hooper has scored in every division and cup competition in England as well as for Celtic in three domestic competitions and two European tournaments.

Kyogo Furuhashi and Oh Hyeon-gyu are the only out and out strikers in the Celtic squad but it would be quite a leap to bring in a 36-year-old fresh from a stint playing in the UAE followed by The Masters.

Discussing Hooper, Wilson told The Sun:

I know you look at Celtic, and the players they can bring in, but I wouldn’t be surprised with Gary. Hoops could be a back-up player there and still score many goals for Celtic.

I don’t understand why anyone would question it. That’s my opinion. Gary knows the club inside out and the fans absolutely love him.

It’s a no-brainer for me. He wouldn’t cost them anything, so yes! For sure he’d take that opportunity, he’d snatch your hand off for it.

Daizen Maeda and Liel Abada are back-up strike options open to Rodgers with Luis Palma also capable of playing through the centre.

Hooper looks more than capable of doing a job elsewhere in the SPFL which could open up the possibility of playing AGAINST Celtic in the future.

Possibly when everyone else is away at The Asian Cup, but even at that it’s a bit far fetched me thinks !

It isn’t April 1st is it. There has been a fair amount of rubbish written about possible signings lately, but this is as ridiculous as it comes. He was a tremendous player for us, however, that was years ago and that is the memory that I would like to keep.

Hooper looked past his best when playingfor Wellington in the A League

    More to the point:

think we missed a – potentially – free opportunity to take back

    Jota on loan…

Utter tripe, and amazed anyone would even think it would make any sense whatsoever.
Done a fantastic job for ourselves, and ended up making a poor career choice by leaving ourselves when he did, and career nosedived since.
Stick to the masters football where he can keep his legacy intact, and done pretty well at doing so at the weekend

  • Tony Blackwood says:

Get him back . . Would be a good back up to use if needed

  • Drew says:

Haha please no..was a superb finisher but tbh always thought he was heart lazy..would rather moan at a ref than chase back..

Sorry Joe, I’m surprised at you publishing this rubbish, your articles are usually of a much higher standard.
