Paolo Bernardo is reported to have completed a medical ahead of joining Celtic on a season long loan.

The midfielder was today named in the Portugal u-21 squad for next week’s internationals but it is his Celtic prospects that are more immediate.

If he was in Scotland on Thursday he could be training with Celtic today with just the timing of the official announcement to be completed which gives Bernardo a chance of being involved in Sunday’s squad at Ibrox.

With Reo Hatate out injured the only midfielders to have played this season are Callum McGregor, Matt O’Riley, David Turnbull and Odin Thiago Holm. So far Tomoki Iwata and Kwon Hyeuk-kyu haven’t got off the bench in four matches.

Like Jota, Bernardo has come through the ranks at Benfica but doesn’t seem ready to break into their first team squad.

A season at Celtic could make or break his development hopes but after the success of Jota who in total brought in around £10m to the Portuguese side hopes will be high that another top level performer is taking the road from Lisbon to Glasgow.

Luis Palma and Nat Phillips involved in training as well as Oh Hyeon-gyu and Mikey Johnston.
