Last week you didn’t have to look too far to find Celtic fans demanding that a new goalkeeper was signed before the Transfer Deadline closed.

On Friday night news that Kasper Schmeichel had been freed by Nice had some folk putting two and two together to put the former Leicester hero in the Celtic goal.

Hart isn’t getting any younger but he is still a very reliable goalkeeper, more than capable of standing up to be counted when the odds are all against him.

There wasn’t one outstanding save at Ibrox yesterday but he worked the angles well, was perfectly positioned and kept the ball out whatever it took.

Late on in the match he got the slightest of touches on the ball as Sam Lammers attempted to go round the Celtic keeper to slide the ball into the net, instead he shot wide.

Team mates Liel Abada, Matt O’Riley, David Turnbull and Kyogo Furuhashi appreciated his Ibrox shift, as did Stephen Welsh and Ben Siegrist from afar. Down south Shay Given and Trevor Sinclair gave their approval for Hart’s clean sheet.

  • Captain Swing says:

Big Joe seems to perform best when giving guidance to young defenders around him, which suggests a great future in coaching, but he isn’t getting any younger and is in the last year of his contract so it makes complete sense to start planning for the future particularly since neither of the understudies we presently have look like they are first XI starters. We don’t have to drop him unceremoniously but if a top keeper can be recruited to compete with him then we should do that. Not sure Schmeichel is the answer though – he’s older than Hart for starters!

Clach – what a great idea for a Joe Hart song, hopefully the GB or whoever makes these things up get onto it
“You’re in my heart you’re in my soul
Big Joe Hart is in our goal,
He is our keeper, our number 1,
      He’s in our goal/soul”
Apologies to Lennon and McCartney, Bacharach and David etc etc

Joe was alert at the end of the match and kept us in it with two good saves.
He played his part, like the rest of the Bhoys did!
