Not content with giving Neil McCann a shift on Sportsound followed by Sportscene, BBC Scotland are using the former Dundee boss as their authority on the Laws of the Game.

When it comes to rules and regulations McCann has a very clear view, he likes the ones that suit him but none of the others.

With a nice stream of disguised remuneration from Rangers he decided not to inform HMRC while the SFA belatedly decided not to punish his club despite using an ineligible player in every match of his Ibrox career.

Telling HMRC that he was freelance despite holding a contract from Sky Sports led to a predictable conclusion as the pundit had to cough up Income Tax plus National Insurance, interest and penalties on his income.

The Laws of Football are treated exactly the same, if it favours the Ibrox Tribute Act all is good just as decisions against also get his approval.

However much wee Neil doesn’t like it the Laws are very clear. When someone is in the act of kicking the ball and an opponent hangs their foot inside the ‘kicking arch’ it is a free kick.

It looks like Gustaf Lagerbielke kicks Cyriel Dessers but only because the Ibrox striker sticks his foot in front of his opponent. Free kick to Celtic.

Since being sacked by Dundee on 17 October 2018 McCann has failed to find a club prepared to give him another job in management.

Will Micky Beale still be manager at Ibrox on Christmas Day?

Yes, he is the Brains Behind Gerrard, don't underestimate him

It wasn’t a savage assault, but it was a foul. There are dozens like it in every single match and there certainly were in yesterday’s game. Had the referee called it as a foul there and then, nobody would even remember it far less consider it controversial. The difference was that he didn’t call it there and then, for reasons not immediately clear but possibly because his attention would then automatically switch to watching for offside, it led to the ball being put in the net and the place erupting in celebration. We’ve seen things like this happen hundreds of times and such goals being allowed to stand but now they have VAR and even they, in their wee bunker at an undisclosed location, are aware this match has a worldwide audience and they don’t want to look either biased or incompetent (take your pick) so pointed it out to the on-pitch referee and suggested he might want another deek at it. I was surprised they disallowed it given their track record, but not astonished, and surprising is what it was, not “controversial” because that word suggests it was wrong – and it wasn’t.

Big Chico’s brilliant derogatory glance says it all.

Lol his tripping face and all his excuses looking to go against the rules of the game yesterday, but previous walking about with the rule book in his pocket to point out decisions he agrees with in the book when it suits him.You couldn’t make it up.

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Interesting that neither him nor the rest of his cohorts at BBC Scotland had anything to say about Butland flinging Kyogo to the deck in the box with the ball in play…

I wonder why on earth that’d be – but Nah ah don’t really !

First of all ,have you ever seen a more pissed off Sportscene presenter than wee Jonny Sutherland on last night’s show after the result ? It was almost as if his producer said that he cannot drink ‘ live ‘ on camera any more ! Not a happy chappie …. Then we had serial crook McCann ,pontificating about how he does not ‘agree’ with the current laws and rules of the game in Scawlin ! So there we have it …tax dodger in chief McCann speaks his mind and the whole country has to adhere to his infinite wisdom ! For future reference . If wee MC Cann says any decisions are not on ,then his word is final and the rule book should be re written accordingly !
