Celtic’s u-19 side crashed to a 3-0 defeat to Feyenoord in their UEFA Youth League opening match this afternoon.

Last season Celtic picked up just three points from their group with today’s result emphasising that playing in the Lowland League isn’t going to produce elite level players.

Rocco Vata was the highest profile player in today’s side but he seemed to have little chance to impress as Feyenoord outplayed their visitors.

Givairo Read opened the scoring for the home side in the 41st minute, two minutes after the restart Jaden Slory doubled Feyenoord’s lead.

Just before the hour mark Antoni Milabo put the home side 3-0 in front, after that it was a case of damage limitation for the young Celts.

Celtic don’t have a Lowland League fixture this weekend but take on Unversity of Stirling on September 30 before hosting Lazio on October 4.

CELTIC: McLean; Dede, Bonetig (Agbaire 77), Robertson, Frame; Kelly (Dobbie77), Carse, McKenzie; Vata (Cummings 89), Quinn, Thomson (Ure 67)

Unfortunately while ma Heart will always say CELTIC CELTIC CELTIC, the oul’ head says that Feyenoord’s main team will prevail also tonight…

I think our games at Paradise will be the place too look for vital points in what could (Feyenoord apart) be a tight(ish) group !

Unfortunately I was correct about this…

Hope we can nick a point of them in the return at Parkhead (Maybe three) –

And certainly three points at home to Lazio !
