Celtic Directors awarded 62% pay rise

Tom Allison, Brian Wilson and Dermot Desmond have been awarded 62.5% pay rises to take their Celtic salaries from £25,000 up to £40,000. Ian Bankier also picks up that figure as a salary after stepping down as Chairman.

Clocking in for a monthly board meeting is all that is required from the Non Executive Directors who turn up on matchdays to enjoy the best of hospitality and first class travel and expenses. Desmond hasn’t attended an AGM  in more than a decade.

The cost of Season Tickets this season increased by an average of 3% with two non- SPFL Premiership matches removed from the package.

Allison, Wilson and Bankier form the Remuneration Committee that pushed Peter Lawwell’s salary and bonus package through the £3.5m barrier on turnover of £83.4m for the year to 30 June 2019.

That year included losing to AEK Athens in the third qualifying round for the Champions League, losing Dedryck Boyata, a World Cup semi-finalist in 2018 for nothing when his contract expired and a managerial recruitment process that discarded all applicants to offer the job in the Hampden showers. A decision that was to prove very costly with future Champions League places lost to Cluj and Ferencvaros, with both sides winning at Celtic Park.

Wilson has been a non-executive Director since 2005 and is a former Labour MP, with a Conservative Government in Westminster and SNP in Holyrood his influence in political circles is almost non-existent. He also writes for various unionist newspapers and pens obituaries for the Guardian.

Allison has been a non-executive Director since 2001 and is a former colleague of Peter Lawwell at Clydeport.

In 1995, while with Burn Stewart, Bankier helped set up an associate Director role for Bill Thornburn with the old Rangers club at a cost of £1m. It is unknown if Bankier has ever brought in a deal of similar value to Celtic. That ‘investment’ was worthless when Rangers went into liquidation in 2012.

  • Charlie Kelly says:

What a shower of selfish self centred greedy bunch,do sod all but take money out of the club.Pay your workers a decent wage, took ages to get you too pay them minimum wage.Yet you work less Hrs and days than them, and you fill your pockets with freebies, European trips, and expenses piss off and try working for.a living

  • Scud Missile says:

These LEECHES make tories look like the good guys.

    • KC67 says:

To think that Brother Walfrid founded Celtic to help feed the poor in the east end of Glasgow.

Fast forward 130 years and Lawwell is handed £3.5 million in one season in wages and bonuses.

No wonder the parasite is always grinning, he and the rest of the rotten board have got the fans for absolute mugs.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Wilson is the biggest Red Tory in Scotland Scud…

I’ve a good buddy that knows him and he is utterly anti Scottish Independence and all pro Butchers Apron and therefore probably anti free Ireland then as well –

That percentage rise is UTTERLY FUCKIN ABSURD…

With Brendan speaking out about fixture anomaly’s (someone at Celtic finally growing a set of balls) then I was half considering a return to the season ticket waiting list, but that’s on hold now for sure –

I know the world has gone mad as ordinary folks get marginalised and these leaches get that percentage rise…

Nobody begrudges them a rise compatible with nurses, roadworkers, etc etc but Jeez oh that’s fcukin deplorable and utterly sickening –

Brother Wilfred will be very proud of where Celtic are in today’s world – but he will be wanting to come back to wring their necks with that brazen imbecilic behaviour !

  • Stevie says:

if Celtic don’t strengthen the left back, goalkeeper and striker positions in January there should be a complete bhoycot of merchandise and season tickets next year.

These bastards are only interested in lining their own pockets and have no interest in the team progressing.

Just as Rodgers looks to be on the verge of something, this lot want to restrain our full potential.

  • Michael Baine says:

That’s a down right Disgrace when they should be pumping the money in to the Club to fund Big Transfers

  • John A says:

3.5m wages on 83m turn over is disgusting just like his heated driveway

  • Seppington says:

Only the Celtic board could come out with this news at the one time a lot of supporters were on their side re: the GB!

Disgraceful, greedy bastards. The moment we thoroughly gub the hun and the league is won every single fan should boycott CP and stop buying merch to send a message to these mercenary bastards.

Should, but if history is any indicator they won’t…

  • Terence Nova says:

Joe your information is mind blowing…but toothless…and what I mean by that is… the faithful through and through brigade will sit in the pub and complain bitterly about our Board…but still buy a season ticket and overpriced merchandise…so nothing changes…BR has, at long last, complained about the fixture list at Christmas…This should have been done years ago…But that is not the Celtic way….We do not question things like ” dodgy ” fixture lists…Or EBT’S ..Or anything that would upset the Masons who run our game…We get what we deserve.

Editor: Fans find it very difficult to give up a Season Ticket but there are many other ways to cut back spending from the dodgy food outlets, relentless kit releases and the multiple other initiatives to extract from your Debit Card.

  • Pedro71 says:

    Famous… catch 22…
Give up your ticket, someone else will take, there will always be another Celtic supporter in the waiting. So now what do you do… my choice has always been to not buy cup, euro or friendlies. Season ticket is what in Scotland we pay for, their bonuses are what the gullibillies pay so welcome to the (teltic) fold… ps. Stop and think, money is all they want. If unsure about my opinion then I telt the celtic fan to get to the end of the queue . We always have been the gullibillies……….

  • Anthony Mcquade says:

Why don’t non executive directors donate their remuneration to the CELTIC Foundation .
None of them need the money

Editor: Because the Celtic Foundation is to raise money from the peasant customers, not the custodians.

  • Amcq14 says:

No surprise really, I have been questioning this boards spineless backbone on various issues but they roll out the same response, we’re working on it in the background. Was the big statement about the GB and how much they donated to the Red Cross a distraction tactic for them lining there pockets when folk are struggling to put a meal on the table.

Time to start getting rid of the deadwood to free up money that should be going into to the club not their bank accounts.

  • Charlie Dornan says:

    Greedy Pigs…???

  • Pan says:

This is astonishing and displays the selfishness and utter greed of the Celtic Board.
They are NOT Celtic men and are simply opportunists. They have no real interest in the club except as a means of enrichment. None of them, including the distant Desmond are worthy people. Absolutely shocking. We need to clear the Board out. There are muck better people than these greedy bar stewards.
