At breakfast time on Saturday Celtic announced a contract extension for Matt O’Riley, at lunchtime the midfielder served up a priceless 97th minute winning goal at Motherwell.

Celtic are renowned for their late winning goals but it is doubtful if there have been any as late as O’Riley’s at Fir Park.

When Luis Palma scored in the 88th minute that looked to be late enough for the visitors with some fans on the park sharing their celebrations.

Five minutes of stoppage time seemed fair but a brutal attack on Greg Taylor saw that extended with Blair Spittal equalising just past the 95th minute.

There was still a few minutes left to play after the Fir Park celebrations died down, Celtic didn’t go long ball with Callum McGregor finding Nat Phillips who fed the ball left to Taylor.

The full back crossed to the back post, Liam Kelly stayed on his line with O’Riley volleying a shot past the keeper to secure full points.

With St Mirren drawing at Kilmarnock Celtic finished the day four points clear at the top of the table thanks to another epic late victory.

If Matt had waited another 24 hours to sign his contract, he could have added another £1000 per week to his deal!
